May 22 nd – 25th – Banner War
G reetings to all members of the populace. On the 22nd day of May we invite you all to meet in themountains of Flagstaff to battle in the glorious Battle Of Banner War. The site will open at 10 AM that morning and will close at 12 PM on Monday the 25 th. The site will be the same as previous years and thefee will be 15 crowns.
This years war will be a bit different than years past, each day will be themed differently and the scenarios will mimic that. Be prepared to fight all three forms on both days, and keep in mind we will be sticking to a schedule as best as possible. As many years before, on Friday night we will have a shinai tourney open to all who are willing. It will be in the form of the Wandering Waylaid Tourney we had here in Altiora. The next morning Steel will be first, with a Crested Tournament, and melees will follow. In Rapier, melees will be taking place first, due to the scenario, and the tournament will be proceeding it. As we transition forms we’ll have a closed Shinai tournament, and follow with a Grand Melee where the two opposing teams will fight over a large open field and capture their opponents and ransom them off. When Sunday arrives the fighting will start once again with the same order of events, however, the theme will be different. Both days will be a host of wonderful events. We will be having Queen’s tea mid-afternoon on Sunday. And after we all have our dinners on Saturday night we will meet again and have a Royal Dessert Festival. I ask that each household brings their own dessert so we can share and have a joyous time. After our stomachs are thoroughly stuffed there will then be a Kingdom Estates meeting before we all meet again and enjoy Stormdragon’s Gambling Den and the Royal Auction to follow.
Of course Banner War is not only a fighting event, on Saturday there will be a Grand Arts Tournament and prizes will be given out to many winners, especially those with more unique entries, Sunday will also be a host of wonderful activities for Artisans as well. We’d like to see as many arts entered and judged as possible by Saturday night, for we don’t want anyone to be dismayed from entering them in the auction house simply because they are not done. Along with the fighting and arts our Sovereign of Arms will be hosting a Banner Competition for the campsite with the most banners. Also, on Sunday night there will be a celebration at the Solaris encampment for Dame Lorelei’s wedding anniversary.
The following schedule is tentative at the moment. As things never go as planned, the times are more of placeholders for the events. And as you will notice, Arts are not included currently, but it will be following.

Combat at Banner War:
There will be a few changes to how combat will work in terms of death's and wounding blows. -Leg shots, in steel and shinai melees, will not "leg" an opponent in the traditional sense, instead, the legged person must stand still and fight from that position. The person is still able to pivot and change direction, but is not able to move.
- Rapier will be immensely different. As many recent studies have shown, our perception of how wounds affect people is very skewed. In light of this, any killing or wounding blow (in terms of first blood any blow received) will not instantly kill the person, instead, they are allowed a three second (one mississippi, two mississippi...) time period where they are still allowed to continue. This will not only help in a more accurate portrayal of combat, but will also teach us how to always be on the defense even once we know our opponent is defeated. As this is a very tricky situation to get used to, I am forewarning everyone about it, and I suggest you practice it in the coming month to better acquaint yourselves with the difference. -Any counted blow tournaments mentioned, will be in the format of, 3 points for a head shot, 2 points for body, and 1 point for any arm or leg, and the final number will be a total of 7 points. These are going to be the biggest rule differences, so as I said I am warning you of the changes. There will be a copy of a Banner War Manual at the event, and any questions online will be answered beforehand.
Campsites at Banner War:
-As usual, water during the fighting portions will be provided, however, we won't be providing it for individual campsites. So you should be prepared to bring your own, and as always the ranger station is just down the road so you can fill up when needed.
-Trash Pick-Up will both Saturday and Sunday night at 9:00 PM. It is requested that we keep leaky and overstuffed bags to a minimum to help us in collecting them.
Royal Dessert Feast:
-We ask that each household bring a dish to share with everyone else, I believe enough to feed 20-30 people should suffice. There is no requirement as to what you can make, but there will be an arts tournament for those period dishes with the proper documentation. Any help is deeply appreciated, if you feel your expertise can be used in a certain area, and would like to volunteer, please let me know and I will make sure we can work it out. I am still in need of water bearers, art judges, and a whole list of others.
Last but not least, I would like to say I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s Banner War. We missed our friends from the west last year, and we would hate to see the weather tear us apart again. . Please feel free to contact me or any of my co-autocrats if you have any comments or questions. I can be reached at zabs25@msn.com or on the Galandor and Vega forums.

June 6th – Cub Scout Demo
What: Cub Scout Demo
When: Saturday, June 6th Site opens at 7:45 am, fighting to begin at 8:20. Event ends noonish.
Where: 1054 W 2nd Pl Mesa, AZ 85201 (It's a church.) Just off University, first street east of Alma School, turn south on Beverly.
This is not going to be our typical demo. This is for a Cub Scout day camp. As the chartering organization is a church, we have specifically been asked to demonstrate fighting moves, as opposed to just bouts. (It's less violent, I guess.) We're going to hold a high court to introduce the boys to the ideals of chivalry, and then send them off to their classes with a quest. At the end of everything, we will be "knighting" the boys. I'll have more details later. It should be fun- these boys are fun to work with, and very enthusiastic.
